yelli anna

Based on my love and recently developed appreciation for suburbs and how they play a crucial part in nurturing local and sustainable practices, I have created a short animation that introduces us to a suburban food stall owner who has been at his craft for over forty years.

All the visuals created in this short are based on my five years of experiences at Yelahanka, a suburb of Bangalore which has fallen victim to rapid urbanisation.

While the individual assets created are based on real world observation studies, the final location and character created for this animated short is completely fictional. This creative freedom helps me exaggerate emotions and aspects of visual storytelling.

CONCEPT

While the mono-cultured urban crowd from the mega city anxiously trots the world on a daily basis to find themselves and their purpose of existence,

Life thrives in the forgotten by-lanes of the suburbs. Here time seems to move differently, savouring on moments that bring diverse people together.

One particular street food stall run by Yelli Anna is very popular amongst the locals, known for the love and attention he pays towards cooking all his meals.

The world stands still while you relish eating food there.

log line

While observing the fast city lifestyle, we wander into one of its forgotten suburban by-lanes, where time slows down and life is celebrated.

MOOD BOARD

Classic cyberpunk characters were marginalised, alienated loners who lived on the edge of society in generally dystopic futures where daily life was impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous data-sphere of computerised information, and invasive modification of the human body.- Lawrence Person[wiki]
I was studying a lot of akira frames for the 1st shot as it dwells into a similar mood and tone that i was aiming for.

shot 2 went into night time local markets and shot three went into close up.

the over all emotional experience the audience should go through is like the feeling Anton Ego gets when he is teleported to a feel good memory because of the food consumed.
